One week from today, the The 31st International Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts will begin at the Orlando Airport Marriott in Orlando, Florida. From their website:
“The IAFA is a scholarly organization devoted to the study of the fantastic (broadly defined) as it appears in literature, film, and the other arts. The purpose of the organization is to promote and recognize achievement in the study of the fantastic, mainly through the organization and management of an annual academic conference, the International Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts (ICFA). There are two publications connected to the IAFA: the Journal of the Fantastic in the Arts, which is a peer-reviewed journal for scholarship within the field of the fantastic, and the newsletter, which publishes information relevant to the IAFA membership.”
You can learn more about the five day conference on their website: www.iafa.org

The Cherry Blossoms will soon be in bloom and that means it’s time for the 2010 installment of Global Shinkai Day.
Crunchy Roll and CoMix Wave Films in conjunction with Cherry Blossoms Falling are proud to announce Global Shinkai Day 2010.
The event will take place starting March 5th 5 pm PST and will run for 48 hours.
There will be contests this year over on Cherry Blossoms Falling so check it out. This year we’ll be giving away Shinkai-san autographed movie posters. Check em out and check out my thread on my trip to Tokyo to meet the CrunchyRoll staff there and to visit with CoMix Wave Films and Shinkai-san, himself.
Things will get moving pretty quickly so tell your friends and neighbors to get ready for an even better Global Shinkai Day this year.

A couple of days ago we posted an updated list of fan conventions popping up in Florida – and the last count had 33 different ones in 2010 including anime, fantasy, gaming, science fiction and more. Here’s a couple more:
March 27 (Largo) – Tosho-Con http://www.myspace.com/toshoconftw/
April 29-May 2 (Cocoa Beach) – RECON 2010 http://www.hmgs-south.com/
June 4-6 (Jacksonville) – RapierCon 2010 http://www.rapiercon.com/
That makes 36! Thanks for Supercon Mike for the heads up on these events.
