First there was AccioCon in Orlando that, while initially promoted as a Harry Potter & Twilight fusion event, became very vampire-guest dominant… but it has now all but disappeared. The website, www.acciocon.com has been down since before the summer with “The website you are trying to view is currently experiencing difficulties, please try again later” listed from the hosting company.
More recently, The Fantasy Twi-Life Tour (www.twilightfantasytour.com) event in Ft. Lauderdale fell victim to their location falling through only days before the show. Due to the technical difficulties brought about from the move – the show opted to cancel events scheduled the Sunday of the convention.
NOW IT SEEMS that the EyeCon: Bloodlust event is being delayed. Per their website (http://www.eyeconfla.com/bloodlust/):

“We have just received word that Kellan will now be unavailable for his January appearance. We’ve heard two reasons, one is for filming and the second is that he is exhausted from his Summit tour for the release of New Moon. We’ve decided, rather than seek a new headliner with only a month to show, to postpone the first BloodLust until May 7-9. More details will be forthcoming, though we can mention that we are looking to focus on The Vampire Diaries initially. This will also give us ample time to promote the appearance of a new headliner. Refunds are being sent in full for those who have purchased tickets to January’s show. We’re certainly apologetic for any inconveniences or disappointments caused by the postponement, attempting to bring the Twilight stars to the fans has been an arduous task as they have been prone to cancellation, we rarely have cancellations with any other celebrity guests. Please feel free to forward any questions to us at submission@eyeconfla.com. Happy holidays!”
The EyeCon: Bloodlust event was originally scheduled for January 15-17, 2010. It is now scheduled for May 7-9, 2010 in the same location. Die hard Twilight fans (aka “Twi-Hards”) in Florida looking for their sparkling vampire fix can still hit up Creation’s Twilight Convention Tour coming to Miami a week before the EyeCon: Bloodlust event was supposed to take place: January 8-10, 2010 in Miami, Florida. Details are available here.
ADDED NOTE: A few years back, the founder of Wasabi Anime (Tom Croom) pointed a concern that Florida was getting saturated with a number of back to back anime conventions and (since then) we’ve seen a number of them end and/or just “fall off the radar.” Is Twilight fandom walking the same path? Post your thoughts.
